Collection of Terry Southern's Personal French Travel Documents and Books (ca. 1950s). Vintage original collection of (19) Terry Southern's personal travel documents and books related to his studying abroad in France during the late 1940s-early 1950s, including (1) Student ID from the Université de Paris, from Semestre de Printemps, 1949, with a March 1949 date and an ID photo stapled to the side with a handwritten notification of his Vétéran status, (1) notice of fees from the Faculté des Lettres de Paris for how much Southern had to pay for library, lab, and matriculation, totaling 1300 francs and dated with stamp 9 Nov. 1951, (1) second edition French-English pocket dictionary by John Fellows, original publication date 1916, (1) Shell map (Carte Routière) of France with red plastic cover and laminated pages, (1) copy of How to Visit Switzerland by Henry S. Lunn, M.D., and W. Holdsworth Lunn, with green cover and interior inscription that reads, "J. Crowle / 36 Phillimore Gardens / Kensington W.," (1) copy of the 1957 Michelin Guide for France, (1) Hallwag Berne Europa Touring Auto Guide, and (12) green Michelin guides dated between 1950 and 1957, with regions represented including Paris, 2-Provence (1-French, 1-English), Périgord, Bourgogne, 2-Côte d'Azur (1-French, 1-English), 2-Châteaux de la Loire (1-French, 1-English), Suisse, and Bretagne. Items measure between 4.5" x 3" x 1.5" to 10" x 6" x 2" and exhibit age, staining, sunning, fading, bumped corners, edge wear, and loose and/or damaged spines.
