Description

Frank Zappa / Mothers of Invention 1970 Portland, OR College Concert Poster. An original thick-cardboard window card advertising Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention playing at the Pamplin Sports Center in Lewis & Clark (liberal arts) College in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday evening, September 22, 1970. This brown & orange-themed poster was made on extra thick board by the Washington Poster Company in order to withstand all the inclement weather in the Pacific Northwest. The Mothers' latest studio effort was Burnt Weeny Sandwich from earlier that year, and this very week, Bizarre/Warner Bros. released the Zappa compilation Weasels Ripped My Flesh. This first-time Heritage offering measures 15" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The couple of samples we've seen of this poster have uneven edge cuts, so perhaps it was part of the poster's design, we don't know. But on this specimen the "Washington Poster Co." credit at the bottom is cut off or trimmed off, and we can't believe that was intentional. But it still feels whole in many ways, with very strong bones. There are thumbtack holes at the very top and bottom center, in the purple, and then several tiny pinprick holes elsewhere in the artwork, but nothing distracting.
