Description
Ike & Tina Turner 1969 Hometown St. Louis, MO Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising that dynamic duo, Ike & Tina Turner, plus the Ikettes performing two shows at the Club Imperial in their hometown of St. Louis on Tuesday night, May 20, 1969. This is a dramatically attractive, oversized concert poster from Ike & Tina's biggest year by some measurements - four charted singles (more than any other year) and opening for a breakthrough Rolling Stones tour of America in the fall.Everything about this poster just jumps off the cardboard at you, including those bright, Day-Glo yellow, orange and green colors. Both Ike & Tina are portrayed in huge size - Tina's picture is 20" tall - and all five musicians have head-to-toe shots, so you can examine their shoes if you like. And all five are also looking directly at the camera. All of these touches add up to what is some collectors' favorite Ike & Tina poster of their career, and they had a 60's full of flaming red & yellow posters. This design, in fact, signaled the first break from that fiery run, and boy was it ever done well.
Printed by the Colby Printing Co. of Los Angeles, this first-time Heritage offering measures 17" x 28 1/4" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: The board was probably once exposed to moisture so it doesn't lay completely flat, it's a bit bowed and curved but that doesn't affect its visual appearance much. There is varied light brown staining or toning in the venue box, the nature of which is hard to determine. There's a one-inch tear on the margin to the left of "Tue." There are several instances of board creasing in the poster's upper half, mostly not visible much but evident in lightly broken color involving the "IN" in "Tina," a little orange right above that and some of the black to the lower left of "T" in "Tina." Broken yellow color from creasing is also evident in the two lower corner areas, hitting Ike's left shoe and the phone number in the lower right margin. One pinhole in each corner. The board's very bottom edge was roughed up a little, impacting the Colby Printing credit. Verso has evidence of the aforementioned damage and one tape lift in the lower half.
