Description

The Ramones 1978 Paradiso, Amsterdam "Gabba Gabba Hey" Concert Poster. A striking poster from the Ramones' transition from a hot new punk band to lifers. Playing the former church-turned-music venue Paradiso in the heart of Amsterdam, this place was a mainstay for rock bands of the day (and for decades after that). Acts from the Rolling Stones to the Sex Pistols to Arcade Fire have graced its stage. For the Ramones at this time, they were only days away from releasing their fantastic fourth album, Road to Ruin. Measures 24" x 17" and grades to Near Mint condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Formed in 1974, the Ramones were inspired by the bare-bones flair of the New York Dolls and the basics of poppy rock bands like the Beach Boys. They were the antithesis of progressive rock, which had become immensely popular at the time. Absent from their sound were guitar solos, as well as lengthy intros and outros. All that remained was the core of a snappy tune. And people loved the Ramones for that. They would be considered one of the pioneers of punk rock. Johnny Ramone simply thought his band was a rock band, playing a little faster.

The band made their first major change in their sound, drafting Marky Ramone to replace original drummer Tommy Ramone. With a harder, driving pulse behind them, the band had one of its biggest tunes on Road to Ruin, "I Wanna Be Sedated."

Seeing "Gabba Gabba Hey" on the poster, it's a reminder of the glorious sing-along part to their tune, "Pinhead." For the rest of their career, those three little words would be synonymous with the band.

Condition details: Has some red ink bleed through from the verso.
