Description
John Coltrane, Miles Davis & Other Greats 1965 Columbus, OH Concert Poster. An original Ohio Valley Jazz Festival concert poster, printed on card stock, for a three-day event in August 1965 that featured a who's who of jazz greats spread over the weekend's evening shows. Included in the fest were John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Muddy Waters and his Blues Band, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, Carmen McRae, Herbie Mann, Gerry Mulligan, Woody Herman, Joe Williams and even promoter George Wein playing, as he was well-known to do. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.More Information: Poster has two big creases from top to bottom, evenly spaced, so it appears the poster was once folded in thirds vertically. The good news is, none of the brown ink is broken. First one runs through "Ohio," three different "Quartet"'s and "Tickets" at the bottom. Second one misses all print until it gets to "Street" and "Into" at the bottom. There are a couple of other sweeping creases, one through the list of musicians and the other mostly through white on the right. Pairs of staple holes in top left (above "George"), top right (above "Ohio"), lower left (on "Cincinnati") and in lower right (under "grounds"). Bottom corners have creases of 1 ½" (left) and 1 ¼" (right). Lower left corner also snubbed up a bit. Upper right corner has a small ¼" tear that also lost a little paper (but not board) on the back. Verso has a rubber stamp plus two figures handwritten in blue pen. General toning throughout.
