Description

The Ramones, Talking Heads 1977 London, England Concert Poster. A large and vibrant poster for a two-night stand at the Roundhouse in London featuring the Ramones, Talking Heads and the Saints playing on Sunday and Monday, June 5 & 6, 1977. Playing the legendary venue (originally built in the mid-1840s) on an early summer tour, the Ramones were on tour behind their third album Rocket to Russia, while fellow Sire labelmates Talking Heads were about to release their debut LP, Talking Heads: 77, in the fall of that year. So you can be sure they were doing "Psycho Killer" in their show.

This huge, gorgeous first-time Heritage offering measures a commanding 40 ¼" x 30" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Though the Ramones and the Saints had a similar upbeat sound, Talking Heads were of a different breed. But back then, the concept of punk was more pronounced than an actual sound. None of these bands sounded like the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Bee Gees or Yes. And it was a relief for those who hated disco and popular rock music of the day. It was proof that a substantial, paying audience was hungry for an alternative to what the mainstream pushed the most.

Even though they were labelmates (signed by the same legendary A&R guy Seymour Stein) and considered punk in the press, the two bands sounded nothing alike. The Ramones were guys from the rough streets of New York, playing classic rock n' roll at a much faster and straightforward way. Talking Heads were art-college students, making music that was looser and groove-oriented. Word is, despite sharing a tour bus on this jaunt, the bands rarely spent time together.

The leather jacket-clad Ramones were known for blitzing through 25-30 songs a night, usually counted off by bassist Dee Dee Ramone. These two shows were the final gigs of the UK tour, before the Ramones flew back home to New York to play a three-night stand at CBGB's.

Condition details: Has scuffing throughout, folds on corners and pen writing on verso.
