Description

SCOTTY MOORE, BILL BLACK & D.J. FONTANA

Elvis Presley 1955 Andy Griffith Concert Program Signed by the King plus Scotty Moore, Bill Black & D.J. Fontana. An original eight-page concert program from 1955 for the Andy Griffith Show tour, for which Elvis Presley was an opening act. The original owner of this program, who sold it to our consignor, attended the show and had everyone sign his program afterwards.

Measures 8 1/2" x 11" and in Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Luckily, not only did Elvis sign it on his own page, and put "love ya," but his Blue Moon Boys signed it as well, on the back cover. Also lucky that all three are very legible, compared with a couple of others you see. Scotty Moore, guitar; Bill Black, bass; and D.J. Fontana, drums, all graciously signed.

Our consignor did not ascertain the date or city from the lucky individual who sold him this program, but it's easy to narrow it down to one exact week: Sometime between July 25 and 31, 1955. That week-long tour of Florida was the only time Elvis played with entertainer Andy Griffith.

What's even more amazing is that the famous cover photo of Elvis's first album, Elvis Presley, was taken on July 31 in Tampa. What if that was the day this program was signed? The chances are one in seven, but at least you'd be guaranteed to have Elvis's autograph from the same week as that world-changing photo.

Interesting to note that C&W Hall-of-Fame musician Marty Robbins signed the program twice, one of them with a nice inscription. Also double-signing was Simon Crum / Ferlin Huskey, because they were the same person, of course. Which is why he signed the opposite name by each of his photos.

Condition details: Significant creasing throughout, especially on the front and back covers. Pink stains on the back cover; could that be Elvis-related lipstick? Minor staining and grime here & there, very toned paper, and tiny rust around the stables but which are still fully intact.
