Description
Where Love Has Gone (Paramount, 1964), Susan Hayward "Valerie Hayden Miller" and Joey Heatherton "Danielle" Set of (4) Costume Sketches by Edith Head. Vintage original set of (4) Where Love Has Gone (1964) costume sketches accomplished in gouache and ink on 14" x 16.5" and 14" x 17" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head and her staff sketch artist Grace Sprague. The illustration of Valerie Hayden Miller (Susan Hayward) features a suit worn during the climactic final courtroom confrontation and subsequent suicide scenes of the film. This beautiful finished sketch has "15/ Hayward" written in the upper left corner as well as production notes that the outfit be worn "int court" and "to death". The on-screen version is the exact same design but is black instead of gray. Signed by Head in the lower right corner. The (3) sketches for "the Daughter" (Joey Heatherton) are each signed "Sprague" (sketch artist Grace Sprague). All three depict sexy pajamas befitting a teenager, and exhibit numerous production design notations, and one also features a simple cameo variation. Unfortunately, all of Joey Heatherton's "Danielle 'Dany' Miller" scenes are either in a courtroom or juvenile detention hall and had to be totally redesigned. The screenplay, co-written by famous potboiler author Harold Robbins and adapted from his previously published novel of the same name, is loosely based on the 1958 Lana Turner/Johnny Stompanato/Cheryl Crane murder scandal when Turner's lover was stabbed to death in their Beverly Hills home, officially by her daughter (though conjecture has later posited otherwise). Each sketch shows varying age and production handling, some with toning and uneven minor losses along margins, presumed from dampstaining or other environmental issues.
