Description
Wives and Lovers (Paramount, 1963), Janet Leigh "Bertie Austin" & Shelley Winters "Fran Cabrell" Set of (2) Costume Sketches by Edith Head. Pair of vintage original costume sketches accomplished in gouache and ink on 12" x 17" and 14" x 17" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. The first illustration for Janet Leigh is a black and white printed cocktail dress with a purse and bracelet. Production note at upper right reads "Janet Leigh #2". The second illustration is a costume design for Shelley Winters depicting a red collared shirt, a black under-blouse, and a belted skirt with a black and white pattern. Notated "Fran #7", "ext. by bushes outside on lawn", and "ok pleat." Bertie Austin (Janet Leigh) wears the dress while hosting a dinner party. Fran Cabrell (Shelley Winters), who is spying on her new neighbors, does not wear the design in this sketch. Her costume became a blouse and slacks which was more appropriate for the scene. Edith was nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design for this film. Exhibiting age and production handling.
