Description

The Byrds 1966 Village Gate, Greenwich Village, New York City Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising The Byrds - Jim McGuinn, David Crosby, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke - at the height of their powers playing their first club dates in New York City at the famed Village Gate for two weeks in October 1966. The Gate was primarily a jazz, folk & blues club, and this was their first rock booking. The Byrds were flying high (if you will) with their latest album Fifth Dimension and recent hit single "Eight Miles High." A very attractive and modern-ish poster with purple/violet coloring and angular design, just a real "looker." And a first-time Heritage offering. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to restored Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Lots of surface creasing going on with this one, and lots of touch-up surface work done by Chameleon Restoration. The upper left and lower left corner areas especially have excessive creasing, with some purple and black color still broken in places. The light horizontal creases going across the bottom of "Byrds" is not a crease of any kind to the board, it's just a light surface mark. The upper right and lower right corners have diagonal surface creases which have been mostly glossed over by the resto. Scratches to the purple were mended down around, and over, the word "Thompson." Slight blemishes on the word "New" at the top. The resulting poster still has its original strong eye appeal, it's only under a black light does the extent of the repair become apparent.
