Description

B.B. King 1958 Harlem, New York Handbill w/Junior Parker and Bobby "Blue" Bland. A terrific-looking 1950's blues/R&B advertising flyer for Harlem's Rockland Palace Ballroom, a "Down Home Ball" falling on Friday, November 21, 1958. The "Big Cavalcade of Entertainment Stars" was headlined by the inimitable B.B. "Blues Boy" King, ripping off some guitar notes in his plaid sports jacket with a big grin on his face. "3 O'Clock in the Morning," it says over his guitar, referring to his first hit from 1952, "3 O'Clock Blues." With this show starting at 10:00 PM, who wants to bet he didn't play that song tonight?

The design of this handbill is just so well-done... the photos are great, the fonts are catchy and creative, the wording is colorful, the song titles are a great added touch, and the brown ink on white paper is infinitely better than black ink. This is just a beautiful piece. And we love the presence of Bobby "Blue" Bland on there... it's like his rookie baseball card with "Further Up the Road" listed, his very first charter of 63 singles he would eventually place on Billboard's R&B charts. Wow!
