Description

Vertigo (Paramount, 1958), Barbara Bel Geddes "Midge Wood" Costume Sketch of Signature Gray Sweater Suit by Edith Head. Vintage original Vertigo (1958) costume sketch accomplished in gouache, graphite and ink on 13" x 17" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. Yellow and gray sweater ensemble worn by Midge Wood (Barbara Bel Geddes) in her apartment while entertaining John "Scottie" Ferguson (Jimmy Stewart), whom she lovingly refers to as "Johnny-O". Her name appears on the sketch, simply, "Barbara Geddes" as do various production notes indicating the ensemble was to be worn in both interior and exterior scenes, and for a taxicab interior, without the gray sweater. Unsigned. Exhibits age and production handling, including uneven left margin trim, crinkling around perimeter and occasionally into interior, various rubs and scuffs, and substrate waving from original application of water-based pigments. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
