It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Matte Painting Establishing Shot of a Plaza and Accompanying Materials (United Artists, 1963). Vintage original matte painting accomplished in gouache on 78.5" x 33" Masonite board. Depicting the shot of the plaza where the movie's famous climax occurs. The matte painting was cut in half and hinged in a self-folding 39" x 33" x 3.75" wooden portfolio with a carrying handle so that artist Linwood Dunn could easily transport it to lectures that he gave. Tipped to the lower areas of the painting are an art department sketch showing the live action plate, and the area to be painted, a photo of the live action sequence and a note explaining that 21 exposures were required to combine the 7 elements in the optical printer to complete the effect.
