The Beverly Hillbillies (CBS TV, 1962-1971), Buddy Ebsen "Jed Clampett" Felt Hat from Public Appearances. Vintage original gray felt-brimmed hat worn by Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen) during public appearances made by the actor in character as the patient, affable patriarch of the Clampett family from the massively popular sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. The series dominated television screens and ratings throughout its nine season run from 1962 to 1971 and was a central fixture of the so-called "rural sitcoms" that flourished through the decade. This specific hat, which bears the characteristics of the production-used original including distinctive gray-brown color, distressing to the brim and hole to center of crown, would have been used by Ebsen during appearances following production and after the original hat became too distressed to wear. Retains interior marking with silver-tipped felt pen reading, "1005503". Provenance: Originally from the Estate of Buddy Ebsen; Heritage Auctions, Auction 688, April 5, 2008, Lot #31191.
