The Andy Griffith Show (CBS TV, 1960-1968), Don Knotts "Barney Fife" Deputy Sheriff Shirt. Grounded by its famously catchy theme song and steeped in nostalgia for the simplicity of Smalltown, USA, the long-running Andy Griffith Show remains one of the most beloved and well-remembered sitcom programs of the post-war network television era. As the faithful best friend and deputy to Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), Barney Fife (Don Knotts) was insecure, self-important, and the high point of comedic relief for the show. As deputy of the town of Mayberry, Fife's uniform is an essential and instantly recognizable part of television memorabilia. Presented here is a vintage original long-sleeved deputy's shirt, as worn by Fife, constructed of a beige cotton with button closure, spread collar, 2- breast flap pockets, fabric epaulettes, and a blue and yellow "Mayberry Sheriff" insignia patch to right sleeve, retaining internal Machin Shirtmakers maker's label. Exhibiting production wear, handling, and age including small rust spots and staining spots to sleeve and back, and 1- 2.5" breach to upper right shoulder area. Lot is accompanied by a replica sheriff's hat with Mayberry Sheriff pin, beige slacks, black utility belt and holster, deputy badge, and black shoes for display purposes.
