Description
Antique Anatomical Wax Sculpture of the Human Torso by C. Kellner (ca. Early 20th Century). A frontal view of a dissected human male torso exposing the larynx down to the urinary bladder. The highly detailed wax sculpture is hand-painted exhibiting the surrounding visceral tissue, lungs, heart, liver, stomach, kidneys and bladder. Sculpture measures 13" x 5.5" x 4" and is housed in a 15.5" x 10" x 5" wooden box covered with black fabric tape. The background within the box surrounding the figure is covered with black fabric. Signed by the artist at the bottom left, "C. Kellner FEC". The sculpture exhibits age; the outer edges of the wooden box exhibit areas of missing black fabric tape and handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions."I have collected anatomical waxes for decades now. This early example, I believe from the 1800s or so, has gone with me through several home moves and remains striking in composition and color." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
