Description
The Robe (TCF, 1953), Young Bess (MGM, 1953), Collection of (2) Costume Sketches by Plunkett and Santiago. Collection of (2) vintage original costume sketches including (1) Amile Santiago drawing of Richard Burton as "Marcellus Gallio" in The Robe, accomplished in pencil and gouache on 15" x 20" artist's board. With notation at bottom "Marcellus travelling thru Palestine with Peter" and signed by the artist in lower right beneath art, and (1) Walter Plunkett's design for a page costume in Young Bess, accomplished in pencil and gouache on 15" x 20" artist's board, with affixed fabric swatches and numerous notes, sketches and initials in pencil. Verso has additional approval initials as well as costumer notes for the eight possible actors. Exhibiting production wear, age, minor toning and soft corners. The Young Bess sketch has considerable mounting remnants on the verso. Obtained from Sotheby's, May 30, 1997, Lots #169 and #541.
