Description

Pan's Labyrinth (Tequila Gang, 2006), (2) Pages of Girl and Faun & Pale Man's Lair Storyboard Original Art. These two storyboard illustrations depict separate but thematically connected moments in Ofelia's (Ivana Baquero) journey. One scene appears to be a variation on the moment when she places a chair into the Pale Man's (Doug Jones) lair and descends into it. The other page captures the heartbreaking scene in which the Faun (also Doug Jones) reappears, offering her one final mission: to kidnap her newborn brother and bring him to the labyrinth. Having seemingly lost everything, including her mother and her previous chance to complete the trials, Ofelia is relieved when the Faun offers her one last chance at redemption, producing the chalk she will need to fulfill her quest. Rendered in muted tones and precise linework, the sequence captures her reentry into a mythical realm of trials and temptation, evoking del Toro's allegory of resistance through fantasy. Drafted in ink, ink wash, and colored pencil on 11.5" x 16.5" storyboard paper. Exhibits light handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
