Description

Pan's Labyrinth (Tequila Gang, 2006), Raúl Monge - Banquet Room Concept Sketch Original Art. This concept sketch, labeled "'El Laberinto del Fauno - Salon Hombre Pálido (Mesa de Cruz) 4", captures the Pale Man's (Doug Jones) banquet room from Pan's Labyrinth, complete with checkered floors, vaulted ceilings, and a looming throne that anchors the film's most disturbing sequence. The eerie symmetry and gothic design heighten the sense of dread and helplessness. Artist Raúl Monge-a key collaborator with Guillermo del Toro and the film's concept designer and storyboard artist-infuses the image with psychological horror and dark fantasy, hallmarks of the film's unforgettable aesthetic. This piece reflects Monge's crucial role in shaping the haunting, dreamlike world that defines Pan's Labyrinth, particularly in one of the most iconic moments of del Toro's filmography: the second of Ofelia's (Ivana Baquero) three quests. In this sequence, the Pale Man awakens after she eats from his table, nearly killing her and leading to the deaths of her fairy companions. Rendered in graphite with an image area of 15" x 11"; framed to 25" x 20.5". Signed by the artist vertically on the lower right. Exhibits light handling. Unexamined out of frame. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
