Description

Ray Charles 1966 Seattle, WA New Year's Eve "Dance and Show" Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising 'The Genius' himself, Mr. Ray Charles, performing a Saturday night New Year's Eve gig at Seattle's City Center Arena on December 31, 1966. This dynamic yellow & black boxing-style concert poster depicts Brother Ray in an artistic rendering that's oh-so-cool. It also has a couple of hyperbolic proclamations, as Ray's posters often did, but with his talent, who's to argue? This was also the last year Ray enjoyed a Top 10 national hit, with "Crying Time" earlier in '66, and a Top 20 album by that name as well. This is really a fun one and a first-ever Heritage offering. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. From the Jim Cook Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Closely examining and tilting the board at an angle to the light reveals a lot of surface ‘stress creases' which, interestingly, are only visible in the black ink from top to bottom, not the yellow at all. But they don't break color so are hardly noticeable. There is also one pinhole plus diagonal ding-crease in each of the four corners. Up at the very top, the white paper is inconsistent in places, again detectable only when you fastidiously tilt it just right. General toning throughout. The verso has a small strip of tape residue at the top (smooth to the touch) and tape-lifts in the upper two corner areas and one in the bottom center, from when it was originally posted.
