Description

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (TCF, 1977) Original Third Draft Script Signed by George Lucas and Cast. Vintage original Third Draft Star Wars screenplay entitled The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, dated August 1, 1975, written by George Lucas. The 112-page script is production bound and bradded with dark blue textured covers with the first page featuring the triangular logo design by Ralph McQuarrie. Signatures include writer-director George Lucas, producer Gary Kurtz, actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Art Director Norman Reynolds, and Production Supervisor Robert Watts. This third draft of the screenplay stands as a monumental piece in the evolution of the Star Wars saga, showcasing pivotal alterations by George Lucas that would define the series. In a stroke of creative genius, Lucas transformed "Deak Starkiller," originally conceived as Luke's twin brother, into Princess Leia, introducing a dynamic female lead into the galaxy. This draft also marks Leia's iconic act of entrusting the Death Star plans to R2-D2, and elevates Darth Vader to a more menacing and central figure. Lucas's imaginative additions include a scene where General Ben Kenobi, initially depicted as a blend of man and machine (a precursor to Vader's final form), imparts Jedi training to Luke using a remote. Diverging from the familiar Death Star escape, this narrative takes our heroes on a daring mission to Alderaan to rescue the princess from captivity, introducing a swamp monster in place of the iconic trash compactor scene. This third-draft production script is from the collection of Bunny Alsup, the assistant to Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz. Production binder measures approx. 9" x 12" with 8.5" x 11" pages throughout. The script exhibits production wear, age, along with some bent corners and yellowing pages. Comes with Full COA from Beckett Authentication Services and Comes with Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
