Description
Mego World's Greatest Super-Heroes Spider-Man, Mr. Mxyzptlk, & The Lizard - Open Box & Carded (Mego, 1973-79). Mego's World's Greatest Super-Heroes line remains one of the most defining achievements in comic-based toy history, and this trio brings together characters from two major universes across the line's formative years. The 1979 Spider-Man carded release reflects the deep popularity of Marvel's flagship hero during the late Bronze Age, while the 1974 Lizard stands as one of the earliest Marvel villains adapted into the 8-inch format, complete with lab-coat styling and reptilian sculpting that embodied Mego's charm. Rounding out the group is Mr. Mxyzptlk from 1973, one of Superman's most unusual antagonists, whose bright palette and impish design capture the whimsical spirit of early Mego DC releases. Together, these figures illustrate the breadth of the WGSH universe and Mego's pioneering approach to character-driven action figures. Packaging wear across the lot ranges from mild to significant. Edges show mild to moderate scuffing and dents, while corners exhibit moderate scuffing and areas of crushing. Cardbacks and box faces display significant wear including scuffing, creasing, veining, crushing, small tears, and fading. The figures show minor age-related wear such as discoloration and light paint rub. Window and bubble conditions vary: the boxed figures show moderate scuffing and denting, with the Lizard's window detaching on one side; Spider-Man's bubble shows heavy scuffing, denting, cracking, and yellowing. These three releases capture the heart of early superhero collecting, uniting iconic heroes and villains from both DC and Marvel in their earliest large-scale toy incarnations. Even with age and packaging wear, they retain the unmistakable presence that made Mego's WGSH figures a cornerstone of 1970s pop culture. For collectors seeking foundational pieces that embody the line's creativity, character variety, and era-defining design, this grouping offers a vivid window into the birth of superhero action-figure history.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
