Description
(Misfits) Massive Guitar Built by Jerry and Doyle for Use at Final Show Signed By Jerry Only (1983).Offered here is a gargantuan guitar, measuring approximately 73 1/4" in length, 36" at the widest portion of the body, and nearly 2" thick, crafted by original Misfits bassist Jerry Only and his brother, noted Misfits guitarist Doyle in their family machine shop specifically for the seminal Punk band's Halloween show (and final appearance of members Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle on stage together until 2016) at Detroit's Greystone Hall on October 29, 1983.
Custom built in a fitting vampiric bat motif of black-lacquered plywood sheets, machined black plastic and components from other guitars, this monstrous beast has been signed by bassist Jerry Only on the body in white paint pen. The guitar was built with the specific purpose to be smashed at that final show, though thankfully it wasn't. Tensions in the band were high in late 1983, where they came to a head during that Halloween performance as Glenn Danzig announced from the stage that the gig would be the band's last.
The guitar remained in the possession of brothers Jerry and Doyle through subsequent years, until it was gifted to vocalist Myke Hideous (of Gothic Rock favorites Empire Hideous) while he served as singer for the 90s incarnation of the Misfits during European and South American tours of the band in 1998. At that time, vocalist Michale Graves was on hiatus from the band, though he would return for the 1999 album on Roadrunner, Famous Monsters. This incredible piece of Misfits lore and Punk Rock history includes two signed letters of authenticity from Myke Hideous stating Jerry Only gifted him the guitar. In overall Fine condition, the guitar exhibits minor chipping/scuffing to the surface and handling/storage wear throughout. Don't miss out on this perfect addition to your London Dungeon or Horror Hotel! COA from Heritage Auctions. LOAs from Myke Hideous.
