1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Stickers - Series 1 - #5a Dead Ted - PSA 9 .
First it was Wacky Packages, which were the bane of retail products everywhere. Next, after the insane popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, there had to be a parody to mock the dolls that one could actually adopt. Enter "Garbage Pail Kids" stickers! The outright meanness of some of the parodies of the beloved dolls led to public criticism, which probably just fueled sales. The original series of releases ran from 1985 to 1988 and included 16 sets, and though there was a brief period without any new series, Garbage Pail Kids releases are going strong to this day!

The very first series was released in June of 1985, kicking off the excitement of Garbage Pail Kids. For the very first series, the artwork was done by only two artists: John Pound, who illustrated the fronts, and Tom Bunk, who illustrated the backs and wrapper. This was the only series to not feature puzzle-back cards.

Offered in this lot is a card from Series 1: #5a Dead Ted! The back features the set checklist. PSA has certified 169 copies earning a Mint 9 grade with only 36 graded higher.
