Vintage gelatin silver glossy 9.5" x 7.25" photograph of Mamie Van Doren [Joan Lucille Olander], February 1969, for Popular Jokes magazine, with "3rd Cover (ink addition) / POPULAR JOKES "Feb 69" (ink addition) / VISUAL VARIETIES, INC. credit wet stamp, and editorial annotations on the verso. Van Doren was one of the "Three M's" along with Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, who were friendly rivals. From the archives of Martin Goodman, publisher of Humorama. Titles were digest-sized magazines filled with original good girl art by George Crenshaw, Dan DeCarlo, Bill Wenzel, and Bill Ward, and photographs of glamour queens Joi Lansing, Tina Louise, Jayne Mansfield, Irish McCalla, Julie Newmar, Greta Thyssen, and Mamie Van Doren, and burlesque performers Lili St. Cyr, Blaze Starr, and Tempest Storm, by celebrated pin-up photographers Keith Bernard, Earl Leaf, and Russ Meyer, who later directed Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and Supervixens.
