Description
Storm Thorgerson Echoes: the Best of Pink Floyd Concept Sketch Group (2001). Three sketches for actual sets that were built and photographed in locations around Cambridge where Pink Floyd members grew up for the band's 2001 compilation album - from the studio of longtime Pink Floyd art director Storm Thorgerson. Rather than interior sets with studio flats, these were done outside, with trapezoidal cut out windows to distort perspective and add to the visual illusion of frames within frames. The first sketch introduces the concept of pictures within the picture, a trend Storm utilized back in 1969 for the album Ummagumma; it's pencil on the back of a photocopied piece of unrelated art, with an image size of approximately 6.50" x 6.75". The second piece, also in graphite pencil, combines the first idea with the concept of images taken from previous Floyd albums; it has an image area of approximately 7.5" x 7.5". The final piece is in colored pencil on photocopied line art, and expands the concept with an M.C. Escher twist, as each window opens to a gravity-defying different point of view. All the objects have significance to Pink Floyd, the hammers from The Wall, Burning Man from Wish You Were Here, the cow from Atom Heart Mother, all from the band's visual past. All three pieces, each signed by Thorgerson, are in Excellent condition, and would be prized possessions for any fan of the band.
