Description
Sharon Tate Photos and Handwritten Letter. This wonderful lot celebrates Sharon Tate's beauty and her ascent to star power. Included in this lot is a 1959 b&w photo of 16-year old Sharon as "Miss Autorama", three b&w 8" x 10" shots of Sharon as "Miss Richland 1959", two b&w glamour/cheesecake shots of Sharon from the mid-'60s, and a letter to Sharon, dated September 4, 1968, from agent Tom Chasin. This wonderful lot celebrates Sharon Tate's beauty and her ascent to star power. Included in this lot is 1.) A 1959 b&w photo of 16-year old Sharon as "Miss Autorama," posing by a Plymouth. Sharon has written in pen en verso: "This is for you Mother...Love ya." 2.) Three black-and-white 8" x 10" shots of Sharon as "Miss Richland 1959" -- standing wearing banner, jubilantly being crowned, and posing triumphantly in crown and dark royal robe with other beauties. 3.) Two black-and-white glamour/cheesecake shots -- one of Sharon wearing a dark leotard, tan cowboy hat and boots while (in a remarkably phallic pose) straddling a missile marked "U.S. Army"; the other of a foxy Sharon adorned in mid/late-1960s fashion -- fur-trimmed hat, black gloves and high heels -- offering "leg art" as she sits coyly on a suitcase. 4.) A letter to Sharon, dated September 4, 1968, from agent Tom Chasin, asking her to read the script for The Rock House and consider starring in the film. Letter is on Chasin's letterhead and signed by him. (A mystery: someone has written on the letter's verso "Roman's Birthday Aug. 16. 36 yrs." and has crossed out the word "Ferrari." Sharon had married Roman Polanski January 20, 1968 -- and she drove a Ferrari -- but Roman's birthday was August 18. He'd have turned 36 in 1969. As such, it's possible Sharon penned this enigmatic note in 1969, shortly before her death.) The Chasin letter shows how Sharon had ascended from a beauty contest winner of those early pictures to a major Hollywood attraction. The photos have a hauntingly charming quality. All the items are in Excellent condition, and the additional bonus of Sharon's handwriting on the back of the "Miss Autorama" picture (and maybe on the back of the Chasin letter) make this a truly compelling lot. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
