Elvis Presley-Received 14K White Gold Guitar Pick, Circa 1955. Of traditional shape, engraved on the front "Elvis / from / Pappy" and hallmarked on the back "14k;" housed in its original box with a sticker on the top reading "Givens Jewelers / 321 Texas St. / Shreveport, LA;" included with a 1967 newspaper clipping about "Pappy" and his background.
PROVENANCE:
The "Pappy" noted above was A.M. "Pappy" Covington, a musician and manager/announcer on 'The Louisiana Hayride' radio show and later television show, both of which were broadcast from Shreveport, LA. Elvis appeared first on the radio show in 1954 and then made his television debut on the TV version in 1955. This guitar pick was likely a thank you gift from Pappy who no doubt saw an increase in the popularity of 'The Louisiana Hayride' after Presley's appearances. According to the current owner, Elvis returned this pick to Pappy's widow, Edna, as a remembrance after Pappy died in 1976; the current owner then inherited it from Edna when she passed away years later.
