Description

Beatles Set of Large Signatures from September 1963. Four huge penciled autographs on a 7.75" x 10" tan sheet, as follows: "Love from the/ Beatles/ John Lennon/ XXX", "Ringo Starr/ XX", "George Harrison/ XXX", and "Paul McCartney/ XXX". The Lennon signature is a full 7" long. These were signed on September 5, 1963, at the Gaumont Cinema in Taunton, Somerset, where the Beatles topped the bill with Ian Crawford, Freddie Starr, Mike Berry, and Rocking Henry as supporting acts. The young girl who obtained them went to the concert with her mother who knew the manager of the venue. This was the Beatles' last concert appearance in Taunton. Included with it is a handwritten letter from the girl's brother to whom she presented these autographs. The page is taped to a piece of lightweight cardboard on the back and sides, not affecting the front. There are several folds and a small tear at the top that could easily be repaired by a professional. Overall good and perfect for display with a photo or album cover.

Even though this was the Beatles last performance in this town, the Magical Mystery Tour bus did roll through on September 15, 1967. It stopped at Smedley's Fish and Chip Shop where the Beatles, Mal Evans, Ivor Cutler, and other members of the entourage lunched there while chatting with the owners like they were old friends. Ringo shot footage of the event but unfortunately, that never made it to the final cut of the film.
