Description
Elvis Presley Signed High School Yearbook The Herald 1953. We've offered quite a few copies of The Herald yearbook from Elvis' senior year at Humes High School in Memphis, but this one ranks among the most interesting we've seen. It belonged to Gloria Carmeen Trout, by all accounts the most popular girl in Elvis' class. She was Miss Humes, Captain of the Cheerleaders, and a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and several other organizations. Her copy of The Herald has been signed by all but a handful of the Senior Class, and the most common adjectives used by her classmates are "sweetest" and "cutest". Elvis wrote, "Best of luck to a very pretty girl - remember me." His lifelong friend and President of the Senior Class, George Klein, wrote, "Gloria it's really has been great and you are one of the swellest girls I have ever known. Good luck always." Inscriptions from Principal T. C. Brindley and Assistant Principal Eleanor Richmond are present and effusive in praising the teenager as well.
Gloria's daughter relates that her mother had mentioned that she and Elvis had the same 12th grade English class, and that he was always nice to her. She also confirmed that Elvis had his own special style for the way he dressed and wore his hair, and that Elvis, accompanied by his mother Gladys, was always performing at local talent shows.
This copy of The Herald shows some wear at the top and bottom of the spine, and at the tips of the covers' corners, but the outside is in Fine condition. On the interior, the pages have become partially loose from the cover, but are still together with no individual page separated from the rest. COA from Rich Consola.
