Description

Elvis Presley's Personal Gospel Records and Book. In January 1960, while in Paris, Elvis met and sang with the Golden Gate Quartet. He loved their rendition of "Joshua Fit the Battle" so much he asked RCA for a recording of it so that he could arrange his version after theirs. They did, and he did, and it became one of the lead tracks on the His Hand In Mine LP, also issued in 1960. Included in this lot are:
1) Elvis' personal double-sided acetate of the Golden Gate Quartet singing "Joshua Fit the Battle."
2) Elvis' personal Near Mint copy of his 45 rpm release of "Joshua Fit the Battle"/ "Known Only to Him." Includes picture sleeve with the number "1" indicating a file position in his record collection.
3) Elvis' personal Near Mint copy of his 45 rpm release of "Milky White Way"/ "Swing Down Sweet Chariot." Includes picture sleeve with the number "2" indicating a file position in his record collection.
4) Elvis' personal copy of the 32-page book, We Call On Him (A Collection of Gospel Songs By Elvis Presley). We have yet to see another copy of this 1968 songbook surface for sale!
This group was originally offered as part of The Archives of Graceland in 1999, with a COA from The Estate of Elvis Presley at Graceland, and may be seen on on page 157 in Guernsey's Official Auction Catalogue. The COA does not accompany this offering, but the picture sleeves are clearly the same one depicted in the earlier catalogue.

Elvis' Gospel side, in a very personal offering!
