Description

Grand Funk (Railroad) 1974 Portland, OR Concert Poster. A Day-Glo poster for Grand Funk's appearance in the Pacific Northwest as they toured behind their eighth album, Sailin' On, in 1974. Bright orange Day-Glo coloring gives this poster its punch, with the now-quartet shown playing live on stage. Capricorn Records' Wet Willie was the opening act, touring in support of their most successful album ever, Keep On Smilin'.

Produced by wunderkind Todd Rundgren, the Funk's Sailin' On features their #1 hit version of "The Loco-Motion." As was common in the day, critics savaged Grand Funk's albums, but that didn't deter fans showing up en masse to their concerts.

Co-led by guitarist Mark Farner and drummer Don Brewer, the trio expanded into a four-piece with the addition of keyboardist Craig Frost in 1972. Happy to bill themselves as an American band, they played for the people, not the critics. GF released another album in 1974, All the Girls in the World Beware!!!, which features the hit single, "Some Kind of Wonderful." But this show was all about Sailin' On.

Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Plus condition for a dinged upper right corner which breaks color in the black, and 3-4 other creases to the board which do not break color. There's also a surface blemish under the "N" in "Funk," and the verso has some writing at the top in pencil. COA from Heritage Auctions.
