Grateful Dead 1967 Fresno, CA "Grim Reaper" Concert Handbill. An original paper concert flyer advertising San Francisco's Grateful Dead, making the three-hour drive to Fresno, California for the first time, appearing for two shows at the Marigold Ballroom on Friday, May 12, 1967. Rocky's Mag was the promoter, and Fresno group the Roadrunners were the opening act.

It's interesting how the promoter made two different same-sized handbills for the event; they were surely excited to have a Warner Bros. group and talk of San Francisco heading over to their sleepy central California city. This version, comprised of black ink on sturdy, parchment-like olive green paper, very cleverly depicts the Grim Reaper himself standing by a grave, tombstone and all things dead (Dead). The other one is more the "corporate" handbill using a central Warner Bros. and G-Dead slogan and photo which was being used in the band's earliest days on the label.

Tickets were $2.50 in advance, $3.00 at the door and available at Discorama and Gospel Music. The Dead's self-titled first Warner Bros. album had been out about two months.
