Description
Woodstock 1969 Genuine Original Large-Size Concert Poster (AOR-3.1). An original, authentic, pre-show printing of the large Woodstock Festival advertising poster from the summer of 1969. This specimen has the three tiny printer's flaws that all serious collectors know to look for in identifying the original first printings.Needless to say, most people consider Woodstock to be the most important weekend in this history of rock, a pop-culture milestone practically unmatched in history, and possibly the end of the 1960's. The talent line-up was spellbinding and legendary, and terrifically, the musicians are named on the poster, including Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Who, Santana, Crosby Stills & Nash, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater (Revival), Joan Baez, The Band, Joe Cocker and a host of others.
Additional musicians listed on the poster were Arlo Guthrie, Tim Hardin, Richie Havens, the Incredible String Band, Ravi Shankar, Bert Sommer, Sweetwater, Canned Heat, Keef Hartley, Mountain, Quill, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Ten Years After and Johnny Winter, and two artists that were scheduled but did not play: the Jeff Beck Group and Iron Butterfly.
This poster has been expertly and professionally touched up and backed to linen for preservation. It really is a strong, solid, beautiful example. If it came from the collection of Jim Cook, who holds the world record for highest amount a concert poster has ever sold for (Buddy Holly, $447,000), than you know it's the real deal and a super-solid, even prestigious, specimen.
Poster measures 24" x 36 3/4" and grades to restored and linen-backed Very Good Plus condition. If you count the linen margin, the overall piece measures 26 ½" x 38 7/8". From the Jim Cook Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
