Description

Apocalypse Now (Zoetrope, 1979), Large Collection of Fred Roos Production Telexes, Budgets Breakdowns, Shooting Schedules, Press Release Materials, and Assorted Correspondence. Original collection of materials including several hundred pages of telex correspondence both to and from Fred Roos during production of Apocalypse Now, detailing production needs, order requests, scheduling arrangements and fees, as well as correspondence relating to press release materials, image and likeness rights for actor Marlon Brando, several dozen memo pads with scheduling notes, and assorted other exchanges Roos was navigating during this period as one of the film's lead producers. Also included are several shooting schedules, budget breakdowns, and production costs runs, several containing Coppola Cinema Seven watermarks, as well as press kit materials from the release of the film, including set still photographs and character biographies, (1) Japanese press publication, several invitations to a partial screening of the movie at Coppola's residence, (1) reel of film retaining original handwritten label to case verso reading, "Fred: Footage of a Navy Seal Patrol South Vietnam (Binh Thuy Area) / Doug", presumably footage for Coppola's reference, and (1) camouflage polyblend utility bag, likely made for distribution to crew, with sewn-on patches to both sides reading "APOCALYPSE NOW" and "ROOS". Also included are several photostat correspondences relating to the novelization of the screenplay circa 1982. All materials exhibiting expected signs of age and wear, particularly to the paper and telex materials. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Estate of Fred Roos.
