Description
The Ten Commandments (Paramount, 1956), Yul Brynner "Pharaoh Rameses II" Static Prop Dagger. Vintage original painted gold-toned metallic dagger static prop, constructed to present as a dagger inside a sheath, cut and etched with elaborate ancient Egyptian-style detailing, including opposing bull imagery relief design on the sheath divided into 4-panels with raised bands between, and the coil of a cobra's tail around the handle ending in a cobra's head atop the pommel. All studio-finished and painted in gold-toned acrylic paint with rich blue and red highlights to accentuate the detailing and coordinate with the accents of Rameses' (Yul Brynner) overall ensemble. Measures 11.5" x 1.5" with 3-small holes drilled into the sheath area, likely for mounting to a holster device during filming. The cobra, a fundamental motif in ancient Egyptian iconography representing power and divine authority, also plays a significant role in a key scene in the film between Rameses and Moses (Charlton Heston), when Moses turns his staff into a cobra in order to win the slaves' freedom. Lot is accompanied by an 8" x 10" color publicity photo of Rameses and Nefretiri (Anne Baxter), with the dagger prominently displayed. Exhibits signs of production use including residue on the backside from wardrobe department styling (likely another measure to affix the prop to Brynner's body for filming). Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
