Description
Elvis Presley military induction note written by his secretary Trude Forsher. (1958) A handwritten shorthand note by Trude Forsher to Elvis Presley informing Presley of his military marching orders. Forsher was Presley and Colonel Parker's personal secretary from 1956-1961. Elvis received this note toward the end of production on King Creole at Paramount Studios in 1958. Consisting of 1-page on 8.5 x 11 in. blue "Hal Wallis Productions, Paramount Studios Hollywood, Inter-office Communications" stationery. Written in pencil in Forsher's unique shorthand, at times a combination of English and German, notifying Presley of his orders. Notes include, in part: "Fort Hood"; the location Presley is to report to for basic training, "Colonel M. E. Shulton"; the officer making the call, "Mr. Tom Parker"; The Colonel, and a series of shorthand notes and telephone numbers (some scratched out). This letter was hand-delivered by Forsher to Elvis and represents his first notification to report for service. This note and its story are also featured in Trude Forsher's book The Love Me Tender Diaries (2006).
