John Lennon by Jurgen Vollmer (1961). Very Fine-. Autographed Oversize Proof Print (22" X 30"). During the Beatles' meteoric rise to fame in Europe in the 1960s, they spent a considerable amount of time performing in Hamburg, Germany, where they befriended photographer Jurgen Vollmer. Enamored with the group, Vollmer briefly toured with the Fab Four and photographed them around the city and performing in some venues. John Lennon in particular adored Vollmer's work, and after the Beatles split sought to use the photographer's image of Lennon leaning in a large doorway for the cover of his sixth solo album Rock 'n' Roll. Heritage offers for the first time an oversize proof print of this shot of John Lennon by Vollmer, signed by the photographer in the lower right corner. The item shows slight wear on the edges of the upper paper layer, mild creasing or bends in each of the corners, and soft smudges in the top and left borders.
