Description
Ike & Tina Turner 1966 "Hot Flames" Ohio Concert Poster (AOR-1.72). An original cardboard window card advertising "The World's Most Exciting Show," Ike & Tina Turner and their Revue, performing at Club Jamaica near Youngstown, Ohio on Thursday night, June 12, 1966. Ike & Tina's 1960's hot-flames concert posters are still among the most coveted and collectible in the hobby, which is why the Art of Rock pictured two of them. The bright Day-Glo colors still look as vibrant as the day it was printed. Ike & Tina are each pictured twice, and their back-up singers the Ike-Ettes get some nice love on this poster as well. Measures 17" x 28" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.48 (illus.).
More Information: It's also great that no less than four Top 5 R&B hits are named in the artwork: "A Fool in Love," "Things Are Gonna Work Out Fine," "Poor Fool" and the Ike-Ettes' "I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song)." Notice the blank flames on either side of Ike & Tina's picture, where additional musicians or information could still be printed in.
Condition details: Slight material loss in upper left and lower left corners. The other two corners have pinholes. There's a ‘tape lift' on the "C" in "Jamaica." Four sets of staple holes are present: in the "LU" of "Club" (also damaging the board somewhat), on the word "Ohio" and to the left and right of the Ike & Tina circle-portrait (notice some color loss in the latter). Board also has various surface blemishes & markings. There's a surface crease which breaks color on the "Revue." General overall toning to the front. We believe the crossed-out "Youngstown" was part of the original marketing, and not damage done later. The poster's verso has uneven toning and tape lifts in each corner.
