BG-12 Van Morrison & Them 1966 "Gloria" Fillmore Auditorium Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for Irish blues-rockers Them featuring songwriter/lead vocalist Van Morrison, plus the New Tweedy Brothers, playing at the Fillmore Auditorium for "One Night Only!" - as the poster reminds us - on Thursday night, June 23, 1966. Designed by Wes Wilson and known as BG-12 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster measures 14" x 20" and was graded a house-rockin' 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the Ben Bierman Carmel Street Collection. LOP from Ben Bierman, COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Wes Wilson knew what he was doing when he put Them's big hit "Gloria" right up top center, below the band's name. Wait... did we say "Them's big hit"? In one of the biggest injustices in Top 40 history, the version by Them only managed to squeak up to #71 on Billboard's national singles chart the year before (1965). It's the version by Chicago garage-band The Shadows of Knight which made it up into Billboard's Top 10 in early '66, and how you & I first heard the song. Van has never been fond of record companies, and this must've really steamed him (he blamed lack of promotion). But Morrison adroitly took ownership of the song, performing it in concert for decades on end, and now everybody knows it's a Van classic and nobody gives the Shadows a second thought or any credit.
