Description

Jimi Hendrix Experience, Grateful Dead 1970 Philadelphia, PA Concert Handbill. An original concert hand-out flyer advertising two titans of rock, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the Grateful Dead, performing together in a seven-hour outdoor music festival at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, May 16, 1970.

The Experience is pictured in a photo grabbed from their first album cover, although by 1970 bassist Noel Redding had been replaced by Billy Cox. Steve Miller and Cactus were also on the bill. Trying to be known as Cry of Love, the trio opened their set with a one-two covers punch: "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Johnny B. Goode." This first-ever Heritage offering measures 8 1/2" x 11" and grades to Very Good condition. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: There is one pinhole in each top corner, and two staple holes in the bottom center margin under the "7 H." The flyer was once quarter-folded, probably for mailing because the creases are perfect. The horizontal crease breaks color along the very top of Jimi's lettering. There is other handling creases evident to the glossy paper, but not breaking color. The strongest one does go through Jimi's face. On the center horizontal crease, the far right edge has a tiny 1/8" seam split. General toning to the handbill throughout.
