Description

Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna 1969 "Ear Head" Concert Handbill (AOR-2.329). An original and delightful S.F. Bay-Area concert handbill for the Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna ("from the Jefferson Airplane") and the Cleanliness & Godliness Skiffle Band playing at two different venues in northern California over the weekend of June 27-29, 1969. Nicknamed "Ear Head" or just "Ears" after Lee Conklin's imaginative design, this flyer advertised two nights at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa, CA and then Sunday at The Barn in tiny Rio Nido, CA. It's funny to see the Dead listed dead last at the handbill's bottom. This scarce, first-time Heritage offering measures 4 1/2" x 7" and grades to Near Mint condition. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.229 (illus.).

More Information: Handbill has toning on the verso, and the lower right corner has a very tiny white tip.
