Description

Bob Dylan 1964 Berkeley, CA Concert Poster in Highest-Graded-Existing 9.6 (AOR-1.102). An original cardstock window card advertising Bob Dylan performing in the San Francisco Bay Area for the very first time, at the Community Theater in Berkeley, California on Saturday evening, February 22, 1964. This poster is unusual in many ways, including the fact that it appeared in the Art of Rock book. Features a highly offbeat design reflecting the iconoclastic nature of the Bay Area's emerging youth movement before psychedelic posters started appearing. Best of all, this poster was graded a sparkling 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company), the highest grade that exists for this poster. In fact, only two have ever been graded by CGC, and this is the best of the two.

Dylan had just released his third album, The Times They Are A-Changin', two weeks before this show, and his name was on everybody's lips from those in the know. This first-ever Heritage offering measures 17" x 11". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.60 (illus.).
