Description
BG-69 Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane 1967 Fillmore Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-and-only printing San Francisco concert poster for the Jefferson Airplane, Hungarian jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo and an unknown Jimi Hendrix playing at the Fillmore Auditorium for the unusually long run of Tuesday through Sunday nights, June 20-25, 1967. Known as BG-69 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster hailed the "Opening of the Fillmore Summer Series" and was graded an absolutely thrilling 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).Hendrix wasn't even well-known enough to have the dignity of "Experience" added to his name. That's because this poster was printed before Monterey Pop happened the previous weekend, turning Jimi into a star overnight. Hendrix set his guitar on fire and left attendees speechless on the Sunday, and 48 hours later here he was, opening these Fillmore shows. We imagine Graham shuffled the musician-sequence just a little as the week progressed. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to 9.8 Near Mint/Mint. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Jimi Hendrix isn't the only total unknown present here; this is the only Bill Graham poster that graphic artist Clifford Charles Seeley ever designed. Everyone else must've been unavailable.
