Original matte painting from Cabin in the Sky. (MGM, 1943) Vintage black and white matte painting accomplished in gouache, chalk and charcoal on 28 x 22 in. artist board. Depicting "Jim Henry's Paradise café" from the Vincent Minnelli musical Cabin in the Sky starring Ethel Waters, Lena Horne and Louis Armstrong. Meticulous pinholes have been made in the marquee as well as on the roadway leading to the café and when illuminated from behind appear as marquee lights and a glistening puddle on the road. With handwritten technical specs, scenic notes and chalk daubs throughout borders. Exhibiting minor signs of production-use and age. Overall in vintage, very good condition.
