Original matte painting from Salute to the Marines. (MGM, 1943) Vintage color matte painting accomplished in colored pencil, pastels, gouache and chalk on 28 x 22 in. black artist board. Depicting a trestle bridge winding through a mountainside. The bridge roadway remains flat green for post-production keying in of live-action footage for the WWII film Salute to the Marines starring Wallace Beery and Fay Bainter. With handwritten technical specs, scenic notes and color test daubs throughout margins. Exhibiting signs of production-use and age. Overall in vintage, very good condition.
