Pan's Labyrinth (Tequila Gang, 2006), Raúl Monge - "Pale Man Corridor". Designed by Raúl Monge, this concept sketch-labeled "
El Laberinto del Fauno" with the inscriptions "4" and "Pasillo Hombre Pálido"-depicts the corridor leading to the Pale Man's (Doug Jones) lair. First seen from Ofelia's (Ivana Baquero) perspective as she opens the portal, this short passage looms disproportionately large in the film, positioned at the heart of del Toro's bittersweet fusion of myth and reality. The skeletal arches, black-and-white checkered floor (which would become white and blood red in the final film), and monstrous faces on the ceiling establish a nightmarish symmetry that reflects the film's balance of innocence and terror. This corridor sets the tone for one of
Pan's Labyrinth's most iconic and unsettling sequences-first approached with wonder as Ofelia gently steps onto the stones, then transformed into a scene of pure fear as she flees for her life-capturing the gothic horror elements that define Guillermo del Toro's dark fairy tale. Rendered in graphite on artist's paper with an image area of 11" x 10.5". Exhibits light handling, erased pencil marks with bumping and creasing at the bottom margin. Signed by the artist vertically on the lower right.
Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
