Star Wars Glasslite R2-D2 with Pop-Up Lightsaber AFA 60 (Glasslite, 1988). This Brazilian release follows the
Kenner Power of the Force pop-up R2-D2 that introduced a redesigned dome and torso to house the longer green saber-changes that applied across the line, not just to Glasslite. The Kenner evolution kept the "1977" date stamp on the first pop-up and later shifted to "1985" on the
Droids version, while carrying forward Sensorscope-era sticker conventions like the "no-wedge" panel art. A few years later, Glasslite produced its own run using acquired tooling, distinguished by factory-unique sticker artwork, a sprayed-silver dome rather than vacuum metalization, and the occasional mixed dome between their regular Pop-Up and
Droids versions. Graded AFA 60 EX, this example is presented in an acrylic case with the bright green lightsaber mounted separately to the left, giving clear focus to the pop-up feature. The display orientation brings the Brazilian-printed sticker art front and center so the Glasslite layout and color choices are easy to read. The sprayed finish on the dome is fully visible, making the Glasslite production method immediately apparent alongside the U.S. lineage. As a late-vintage outlier, Glasslite's pop-up R2-D2 bridges Kenner's POTF innovation with Brazil's localized finish. It's the same brave astromech collectors know, translated through a different factory's hands and a different continent's aesthetics. For variant hunters, that combination of shared DNA and regional nuance is exactly where the magic lives.
