The Shape of Water (Fox Searchlight, 2017), Screen Used Ocean Access Sign for Amphibian Man's Escape. Original metal 14" x 13.5" sign reading "WARNING / At 30 ft Mark / Canal Opens / To Ocean / Oct. - Nov. / Harbor Master". The sign is expertly distressed to appear weathered and aged with faux rust and stains. Clearly visible on the post facing the canal, which not only is the means of escape for Amphibian Man (Doug Jones) but symbolizes the place of ultimate transformation for Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins), where their love transcends societal boundaries, physical differences, and the limitations of the human world. Exhibits production wear including paint loss around mounting holes. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
"We needed to signal a timetable -a clock - a countdown on how long Elisa would keep the creature at home. This sign and sequence, which contains one of my favorite images (Sally with the umbrella facing the horizon), served that purpose, and the sign being auctioned is one of two heroes used in the film."
