The Great Garloo 24-Inch Remote Control Figure (Marx, 1961). Part prehistoric sea monster, part loyal servant, and 100% unforgettable, The Great Garloo stands as one of the most iconic large-format toys of the 1960s. Designed by Marvin Glass and produced by Louis Marx & Co., this hulking green brute was brought to life with a wired remote control that allowed kids to make Garloo walk forward, bend at the waist, and swing his arms - ideally to serve his human masters or menace smaller action figures. His striking visual design - reptilian scales, pointed ears, Roman-style sandals, and a leopard-print loincloth - made him an instant standout, amplified by a memorable TV ad campaign and leopard-print box art touting his monstrous obedience. Over 2 feet tall, Garloo was one of the largest battery-operated toys of his era, and his cult following continues to grow among monster fans and robot collectors alike. The figure shows moderate overall wear, with some rubbing to the paint, particularly on the hands, staining, and mild aging of the exposed metal joints. The remote is intact, with typical age-related discoloration to the plastic and some corrosion in the battery compartment. Both the original leopard-print loincloth and necklace medallion are present. The box exhibits heavy damage, including a fully detached top flap, as well as pronounced creasing, tearing, crushing, and general surface soiling. Despite the wear, most of the graphics remain legible and intact. Still one of the strangest, boldest toy designs ever brought to market, The Great Garloo remains a cult classic with crossover appeal among monster lovers, sci-fi fanatics, and vintage toy collectors. Don't miss this towering tribute to atomic-age weirdness - Garloo obeys... but only if you claim him.
